Weekly News Roundup

This week’s news has a lot to do with age—from models who are too young to be working to fashion’s old timers who have left us. While it can be easy to forget that not everyone in fashion is between the charmed ages of 21–35 (or at least look it), we can learn a lot from the stories of others. The most interesting thing I learned this week? There are still good celebrity moms out there, and there are women in the 90s who still sleep in until 2 p.m.

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Mommy Dearest

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Mommy Dearest

I’ve had moms on the brain lately—or at least even since I read “The battle of all mothers” in this week’s Globe Style. Turns out, mommys—or Katrina Onstad, to be specific—can feeling a tad left out of the fashion world. I’m not saying it’s easy to be a mom and [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Jenny Packham’s princess

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Jenny Packham’s princess

London’s Kensington Palace recently revealed that it will be hosting an exhibition showcasing a handful of never-before-seen gowns belonging to the late Princess Di. The exhibit will open on March 26, and since news broke, I’ve been feeling awfully reminiscent. For many women my age, Diana was the perfect figure [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Lanvin

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Lanvin

I love Alber Elbaz, but I wasn’t such a fan of the muted, scaled-back glamour of his Spring 2012 collection. I far preferred the choices he made in the Fall 2011 show, the models looks like Hailee Steinfeld’s Mattie Ross in True Grit, all grown up and a total babe. [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Proenza Schouler

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Proenza Schouler

Source: style.com I love this look from Proenza Schouler for many reasons, but I can’t lie—the micro-mini skirt/shorts was what caught my attention. How can you not love a super-chic and sophisticated look paired with very minimal bottoms? The details in the boxy sweater mimic the colour of the bag [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Cow-girl

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Cow-girl

They say that Thakoon’s collections have mastered cohesion amidst the mish-mash of multicultural inspirations—but I can’t attest to this. Before last week’s latest runway show in New York he was just another name on my list of designers that I’ve never heard of and definitely need to check out. The [...]

New York Fashion Week: Derek Lam

New York Fashion Week: Derek Lam

Derek Lam played it safe for his 2012 SS collection, which debuted on Sunday, with a few key pieces, colours, and patterns standing out from the rest. The various outfits encompassed many of the trends that we see emerging for the coming spring season, and important staples like sweaters, suits, [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Celine Resort 2012

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Celine Resort 2012

Celine’s Resort 2012 collection caught my eye in a serious way; the stark whites contrasted with flashes of colour, the bold, full patterns, and (I shouldn’t even get started on this one) the white shoes. The two styles of shoe made an appearance in black as well, but there is [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Luella Girl

Laura Kathleen’s Look Of The Week: Luella Girl

I was pretty bummed when Luella went under, sometime after the showing of their 2010SS, and I wasn’t the only one—the label was a favourite to many young fashionistas worldwide, and one peek at this week’s pic can give you a good idea why. Each look that walked down a [...]

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Tough-Girl

Laura Kathleen’s Look of the Week: Tough-Girl

I love this look from Acne’s Resort 2012 collection for a reason that should generally be shied away from when reacting to a runway show: it’s just so damn relatable. Acne really hit it out of the park with this collection, but this effortlessly-cool look stands out from the rest [...]
