You may have noticed that designer collaborations have taken over the fashion industry. You may have also noticed that Canadian designers have been somewhat left out of this phenomenon. Well, we’re finally getting our chance thanks to designer Jason Wu’s Canadian roots. This week, Toronto is going to be graced with both the lovable Jason Wu and a pop up shop featuring his line for Target! On top of that, all the proceeds from the shop will be benefiting the United Way Toronto. This event really couldn’t get any better unless I become B.F.F with Jason Wu…
Back to reality for a second, on Thursday February 23rd Wu’s line will be appearing at 363 King Street West from 12pm to 6pm, or until supplies last. The shop will contain 2,500 pieces which will range in price from $10 to $45. Of course, in order to ensure that devoted fans get their fair share, there will also be a limit of only three items per customer. At the same event in NY, the pop up shop was cleared out in only a few hours, and I imagine that with the hype of seeing Jason Wu himself we will see similar results here.

In commenting on the collection, Wu notes that it is inspired by the idea of American girls in Paris. He is adamant, however, in also noting that he “didn’t want the pieces in the collection to be trendy, to scream out. It’s a little more subtle than that, there’s something quite timeless to it. I just think they’re really great pieces with their own life, worn together or separate. And in today’s market it’s hard to find something nice that you can wear to multiple occasions and keep for a long time.” Wu clearly understands his audience and acknowledges that although his collaboration with Target has “allowed [him] to reach a much broader audience,” it still excites him to be able to share the goods with his fellow Canadians.
I am happy to be one of many fans to be heading to the pop up shop for a peek at the collection. Perhaps this will be my chance to rub shoulders with Wu—or at the very least see him from afar amongst our city’s fashionable folk. Hope to see you there!
